In the 30th year after Desîhra, the fourteenth Nocte Obducta album sees the light with "Karwoche – Die Sonne Der Toten Pulsiert", marking another chapter in the German avant-garde black metal pioneers' relentless journey.Stylistically more focused on the first decade, mangy, unpolished with dense, morbid atmosphere, this record cuts through the darkness like a rusty blade through flesh. Nocte Obducta have once again delivered something that feels genuinely unsettling – a deutlichere Hinwendung zu rabiatem Black Metal der frühen Tage (a clearer turn towards rabid black metal of the early days) that strips away the more psychedelic wanderings for pure, concentrated malevolence.

The album opens with "Sonne der Toten" getting straight black metal, largely freed from the known avant-garde chic, before tracks like "Drei gemeuchelte Sommer" showcase rumbling black'n'roll attitude, dissonant ear canal confusion and carried melodies. What makes this particularly thrilling is how NOCTE OBDUCTA understand how to always build in idiosyncratic flourishes and create a dense atmosphere, even when they're supposedly going for the throat. The nine-minute epic "Balder" stands as a monument to their craft, while the closing "Schwarzbier und Feigen" wraps things up with an almost tavern-like warmth that's genuinely unexpected.
